Stevica Ristic and Suwon fell short today as they lost 1:0 in the Korean Cup final against Seongnam and Sasa Ognenovski.
This was a matchup of striker Stevica Ristic of Suwon going up against defender Sasa Ognenovski, an Australian of Macedonian origins, from Seongman. Suwon created several quality chances but their finishing let them down and they ultimately suffered a minimal 1:0 loss with Seongnam scoring the lone goal in the 77th minute. Suwon also finished the game with ten men after one of their players received a red card in the 90th minute.
Ristic ended up playing all 90 minutes for Suwon in an attacking minded 4-3-3 formation. The domestic cup final in South Korea was played in front of about 15,000 people. Suwon won the domestic cup title last season but they will be runners up this year after losing today’s cup final 1:0.
Again, midfielder Matt McKay did not feature for Rangers, his omission the result of his recent round-the-world trip to play for his country.
“Matt is fit, he is fine and is in good form. He played for Australia and that is one of the reasons I left him out,” said the manager, whose side failed to capitalise on Celtic’s 3-3 draw with Kilmarnock.
“Matt was travelling round the world, so that was our logic not to include him.”
