Comments on game vs Mt Gravatt

“We came into this game requiring a small miracle to advance to the semi-final,
apart from needing a win by a clear four goal margin, we also needed Capalaba to get a result against Olympic. I did however, take much encouragement out of matching Olympic and Mt Gravatt in terms of getting (6) points from the group stage. In the end that 5-0 loss against Olympic was a margin that we could not recover from”

“We saw this as an opportunity to test our fitness levels against one of the fittest teams going around at present. The pre season is presenting us with ready made problems to address and to that end we have not needed to shuffle players and systems as part of our contingency plans in the event of absences because as I said, forced absences have been presenting themselves.”

“We fielded a third combination in as many games tonight and I was very pleased with the performance of youngsters Luka ILIC, and youth player Jake McGOLDRICK who came on with some 15 minutes remaining and certainly contributed to our 2-1 win”

“I was also pleased that we are getting much more comfortable in playing out from the back and through the midfield, but we are still well behind when it
comes to moving the ball quickly, our transition from defence to attack was well below par last night, but I have put this down to fittness, but that aside we are on track to peak at the right time”

“I thought that we had the larger share of possession last night but lacked
those third man runs, and the early release of the ball from midfield, these are
the sort of things that we have to work on during the pre season. I am confident that we are growing in confidence as a group and our focus is wholly on the first league fixture”
