Tuesday’s Silver Boot

Mt Gravatt defeat Capalaba 4-2 and Olympic beat Taringa 5-0. Mt Gravatt need a point against Taringa next week to qualify from Grp A of the Brisbane Roar Silver Boot

Post Match Comments from Taringa coach, Joe Fenech, “Naturally getting beat 5 nil is not pleasant. We expected Olympic to come out with a point to prove after their loss to Mt Gravatt last week and we did not help our cause when we failed to push out quick enough from the back allowing Evan Papadopoulos to get one on one with our keeper on the ten minute mark. Papa does not often miss in those situations. The second and third goals came from schoolboy errors and at this level you are made to pay and pay we did”

“Certainly our depth was tested tonight, but that is part and parcel of the preparation for the season ahead better now than when it really counts”

“We were outplayed on our left defensively in the first half in particular. We experimented with the left back position in light of some absences. These are the sort of situations that we will need to deal with in the season proper so being exposed now gives us an opportunity to address such contingencies”

“Our passing often let us down tonight, and at times we gave away possession a little to easily for my liking, but despite all that we actually created many goal scoring opportunities and on another day we may have taken the two guilt edged chances early in the second half to make it 3-2 and that may have put a little doubt in Olympic. Instead we chased the game and as is often the case when a team does this we were caught out with two more goals. It was not meant to be and in the end we were beaten by the better team on the night”

“I am very proud of the boys who continued to play right up to the final whistle. Now we just put this behind us and look forward to our next game”
