IAN Dalzell declined a wee dram and passed on the haggis last night as he double-checked his list for Brisbane Roar’s trip to Adelaide this weekend.
Dalzell’s Scottish brogue and generous laughter has been heard around the boundaries of Brisbane football for almost 40 years. The Roar’s team manager prefers to be in the background, involved unobtrusively in the game that became his passion as a small boy in Airdrie, Scotland, in the 1960s.
”Airdrie is only 15 miles (24km) east of Glasgow, in the shadow of Celtic and Rangers, but I followed the greatest football team in the world: Airdrieonians FC,” he said.
