In a coup for female football on the Sunshine Coast, Football Brisbane and Football Queensland have recently announced the successful application from Sunshine Coast Football (SCF) to lodge a team in both the Women’s Premier League and Women’s Premier Reserves respectively. Such is the quality of this competition that our local players will be exposed to, that no less than four (4) Queensland footballers from this league played in the Brisbane Roar W-League side last season. Applications are now flooding in from local clubs and coaches expressing interest in assisting the resource development that the side will require. Official team name, colours, coaches, captains and other key components of the new side will be released once finalised.
Locally, female football has always been a massive growth area in recent times for SCF. Across the board figures have shown an official increase of 15% for 2010 regarding female registration and as a result, numerous junior and senior female divisions have been added. Fittingly, this year will be the first to see female football have their own Grand Final event to be held at Buderim Wanderers FC (Ballinger Park) this Friday night with the main game kicking off at 8:30pm.
Thank you once again for your continued support of female football on the Sunshine Coast. Hopefully I will see you at the grounds.
