Peninsula Power FC Host Bill Turner Cup Finals

Well the Queensland finals series is over for another year with a bit of “same old” about the results. The new venue at Peninsula Power FC was excellent with the players loving the great playing surface. This support from Peninsula and its president Craig Feuerriegel is much appreciated and we look forward to continuing the association in 2011. The local MLA Yvette D’Ath opened proceedings, while Brisbane Roar players Reinaldo, Eric Paartalu, Andrew Redmayne and Henrique were in attendance on finals night as part of the Roar sponsorship and were well received by the spectators. Henrique presented the girls’ trophy while Moreton Bay councillor Rae Frawley was on hand to present the Cup and Shield to Cavendish Road and Cairns respectively after the boys’ final.
It was also great to see long time Area 3 manager Rod Smith at both finals nights, despite the cold temperatures and despite his pending retirement!
The void caused by Ryan Catholic’s withdrawal from the  trophy comp after beating Cairns in the Area 1 final was more than capably filled by Cleveland District SHS which competed well on both nights winning the 3/4 playoff against Redcliffe. Cavendish Road girls looked quite lethargic in beating Cleveland but showed a much greater intensity in the final in comfortably accounting for Kawana Waters. Kawana on the other hand played very well on the first night but just did not back up in the final.
In the Cup Kawana Waters showed excellent technique in its semi against Cairns but didn’t convert the chances which fell its way. Cairns played with its usual intensity and converted the chance when it came to score a one goal win. Brisbane Grammar scored first against Cavendish Road in the second semi and for a time an upset was on the cards. However once the Cav Road boys got into their stride the game was soon their’s.
Kawana showed what “could have been ” with a 4-1 demolition of Brisbane Grammar in the 3/4 playoff while Cavendish Road dominated both technically and in field position to comfortably hold a plucky Cairns team in the final
