JDB to the Championship

Jackson Dixon-Best is expecting to sign a contract with Coventry City in the npower Championship (the league below the EPL) in the next few days.  JDB began the season drawing praise for his performances at Richlands for Souths United in the Silver Boot pre-season tournament where they finished as runners-up.  As a player we at YourBPL.com identified earlier in the season as “one to watch”, Jackson kept drawing our praise on podcasts for his performances in the green and white.  We had heard that JDB wouldn’t last the season as he was to go over during the Australian winter to trial in England.

A couple of weeks ago Phil mentioned that he had spoken with Jackson and he’d been offered a contract with AFC Wimbledon in the Blue Square Premier, although was trialling at Coventry.  Both Phil and I were delighted to hear the news from Jackson that things have gone very well with him impressing in run-outs for the Under 19’s.  It is an amazing story with Jackson currently staying in a 4-star hotel that Coventry are paying for whilst he finds somewhere locally to live.

Jackson thanked YourBPL.com and its readers for the support and encouragement he got, which has spurred him on during recent times.  It is an amazing story for us to have watched his progress.  I know Phil is trying to see a Coventry game in September whilst I should be able to attend a match whilst there in November.  We wish Jackson all the best over the forthcoming weeks as he tries to break into the squad.

Some will think its crazy that the Roar, Gold Coast and Fury all missed out on Jackson.  Certainly, Fury assistant coach Stuart McLaren coached the Brisbane Strikers during that Silver Boot competition.   I think its important that Jackson’s move proves a point, that there is quality here in Brisbane if you look for it.  Hopefully it’s a lesson that the endeavours that the Roar appear to be making locally continues.
